A Happy 9/11 Musical…

By: Sabrina Lemer

If you have not yet had the chance to see this very special musical, run…do not walk…to experience it.

Wonderful for ages 10 and up, Come from Away is an incredible true story of what happened in a small town in Canada during the week following the 11 September terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The production is centred around a small town of Gander in Newfoundland, the 38 planes (with 7,000 airline passengers) that were forced to land there because they were not allowed into US airspace and the townspeople who sprung into action and ended up teaching us what selflessness is all about.

Focusing on actual stories from some of the passengers’ and locals, the playwrights have woven together an amazingly complex overview of what happens when unimaginable activities, such as when airplanes are used as terrorist devices, are combined with the best of humanity, giving and love.

The show is so cleverly produced and I know personally I have never been prouder to be a Canadian in my life.

Come from Away is at the Phoenix theatre, London, until 11th of November.
